fun with steel beams

the beams are goin’ in…meaning that soon the house will have an entirely new support structure and we can open up the floor plan on the first floor. yes, it’s as scary as it looks:

i came down stairs to take pictures and realized C was literally cranking up a massive steel beam, and the floor i had been walking on upstairs was being supported by a temporary wall of 2x4s. awesome.

in addition to new headers in the house, C decided that while he was at it, why not extend those said beams outside the house so that we can have an upper deck above the patio. my response: uhhhh yes? i mean…YES. the idea is that we will have an entrance from our bedroom at the back of the house with stairs that go down to the patio and another small spiral stair case that will give us rooftop access again. (we lost our access when we opened up the stairwell and installed a skylight.)

all that deck buildling will take place this coming spring. our patio is still not complete: when the temperatures started to drop, C had to move to working inside so we could have heat for the winter, which is far more important! as soon as the headers are installed, he’ll be working on the radiant heat. until then, we have temporary baseboard heat to get us through the next few months.

other weekend highlights include my fabulous owl dress made by whit. unfortunately, we were all in a rush and no one took pictures. this is one of the few of me and my bff kate, who went as a bloody zombie bride. yes, that’s her real wedding dress and no, she doesn’t regret slashing it and covering it with fake blood.
