color study orange: thumbs up, thumbs down

Just got the May Anthro catalog. I don’t LOVE anything, which is slightly disappointing. Not that I buy much at Anthro anyway, but I always enjoy looking at their catalogs for inspiration. My only thumbs-up are these two tanks, neither of which I would wear in orange or turquoise:

They do come in white, but I rarely wear white unless it’s August and I’m very tan. I’ve been looking for a top that has croqueted work like the one pictured here, but I’d rather find it in black or purple or another color that doesn’t make me look like death. Orange looks good on almost no one. (Except Shanna, who rocks an orange cardigan I could only hope to look half-alive in.) Oddly enough, orange is the accent color in my studio. This is something I’m still surprised by, given how little I actually enjoy the color orange. I’m always interested when I find orange done well. (I hope I’m not offending any orange lovers.)

I have a folder on my computer titled “white house” where I keep all the interior design work that I find online that inspires me. I started it when I realized that we were gutting EVERYTHING and starting from scratch and that I had to accept that I am married to a minimalist who wants all the walls in our house to be white. Here are two examples of orange done well:

As you can see, I’ve taken on C’s minimalist leanings. That’s about as much orange as I can take.

Of course, I have no idea where these pictures came from, so if you recognize the work, send me the link. I hate not giving credit where credit it due!

Update: The first picture is from Attic Mag designed by http://www.tylarkins.com/ and the second picture is from Elle Interior mostly via Decor. Sweet!

Funny how taste changes. I never likes orange either but our first apartment had an orange kitchen, the floor the curtains and the walls. YUCK!!!

I am strangely attracted to orange. But aside from an orange jacket I bought for cross-country skiing (because it was cheaper because it was orange) I don’t think I can wear it.
